Reliance Jio data speed almost double of Airtel in May, says TRAI
According to latest data released by TRAI, Reliance Jio has shown a tremendous growth in terms of data speed. The data released by the telecom regulator showed that 4G speed of Reliance Jio in the month of May was the highest beating the leading telecom company, Airtel by a margin.
The company recorded an average of data speed of 19.1 Mbps on its network. While Sunil Mittal led telco Airtel has recorded a speed of 10.15 Mbps, for the same month. The other two telecom operators are ahead of Airtel in average 4G speed in the month of May.
Idea Cellular, that is the third largest 4G player in India, has marked its second position in the chart with an average 4G speed of 13.7 Mbps. Vodafone India followed closely next with average speed of 13.1 Mbps and was ranked third in the chart.
Looking into the consolidated data of the all the operators in last three months, Reliance Jio has always maintained a consistent performance and has stayed ahead in the league with 18.4 Mbps. This was followed by Idea Cellular at 11.8 Mbps, Vodafone India at 11.5 Mbps and Airtel is at the bottom of the list with 9.9 Mbps.
While Airtel was the slowest in download speed in the month of May, Jio was the slowest in terms of upload speed. Idea’s upload on its 4G network was highest at 7.2 Mbps followed by 6.8 Mbps by Vodafone. Airtel’s upload speed was at 4.4 Mbps whereas the same of Reliance Jio was at 4.3 Mbps.
However, the download speed of their data matters to the consumers more than the upload speed.
Airtel and Reliance Jio are the biggest rivals in Indian mobile broadband sector, both claim to have the fastest 4G network in the country by.
In February this year, Airtel was certified by Ookla of having the fastest network, though Jio has challenged the same. In a letter to advertising watchdog, Advertising Standards Council of India, Reliance Jio had said Airtel’s claim and the related advertisement that it’s the fastest telecom network in India is misleading and false. The new operator has also asked ASCI to consider withdrawal of the said ad.
